Good Sense

My previous post was only intended to be an analysis of factors that led to the adoption of the motion offered by Rick Garner, but the comments quickly turned to analysis of the intent and effect of the motion itself. The more I read on this subject, the less adequate I feel to discuss it properly, so I want to point you to someone who I have found to be more than adequate to the task.

I have recently become aware of another blogging pastor in Oklahoma (I know, what are the odds, right?). This blogger has an impressive resume, having served as president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention and as chairman of the board of trustees of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His name is Ronnie W. Rogers, and he serves as pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma.

He has written an eloquent piece on this motion which has become the subject of so much debate, and his post makes more sense to me than just about anything else I have read. Here is a quote:

…these who seek to limit trustees and leaders to only what the BFM says, are out of touch with history and the reality of dealing with a rapidly changing culture that transforms today’s givens into tomorrow’s giveaways. The BFM is incapable of being changed often enough to deal with these, not to mention the nuanced needs of particular entities. Therefore, this motion potentiates radically changing the meaning of what “trustee” means, the nature of the BFM, and untold harm to the overall mission of the SBC.

Pastor Rogers’ blog can be found here, and for a direct link to this excellent article, click here. Please take the time to read it.

This blogger loves his pastor, and so does the whole church.
And yes, it was a good article indeed.

    Wes,

I have found Ronnie Rogers’ blog to be absolutely refreshing. He takes his stands firmly on the Word of God, and articulates his thoughts with amazing precision. God bless!!!
