God Bless you men and the work you do for the Kingdom. I pray God’s blessings on the work you are about to undertake for His sake and the sake of His people.
Glad to hear about the website. However I had to comment on your statement: “As a fifth century dawns for churches called Baptist, there is budding a renaissance of Baptist
beliefs.”
You might be interested to know that Southern Baptist historian John T. Christian demonstrated the use of “Baptist churches” back into the 1500′s and the use of “Anabaptist churches” go back much further than that. Do you believe Baptist churches originated in 1609 or 1641?
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TO THE PRESS
Bonham, Texas 08-25-2007
I am glad to see the launch of Wes Kenney’s new blog. I offer my wholehearted endorsement of any and all ideas expressed on the blog with which I might agree.
I just read your rules. What is happening to you guys, all of you? Blog Town has always operated on “boom town” law.
First; Cole and the Littleton gang start breaking up fights in their “joint” and now you, Tim, Joe and Robin give out a bunch of rules that no self-respecting hooligan can live with and feel good about himself. How are we going to enjoy blogging if we can’t fight dirty, scratch, bite, pull hair and use brass knuckles, boot-knives, garrote wires, or belly-guns?
I guess you guys think we should come to the middle of the DOJO and bow properly and fight fairly as our Sensi would have us. Where is the fun in that?
Why don’t we just start a spelling bee? That would probably help me more than all this new sissy stuff. I think I’ll just move over to that “pigpen of filth and stupidity” over at Baptistlife.com.
I know there have been things that I have done on my blog that I have regretted later. My journey has been a learning experience. Personally, I wanted to see us start on a good note. I believe these rules will do it. Tim Rogers did a great job putting them together.
We also decided to make the rules more stringent because we do not want to gain readership for mud slinging, but for others recognizing this site as a resource that can benefit their ministry and church.
Don’t worry cb, if history is any indicator the new rules will be short lived. For example, back in January, Wes transitioned from his old blog to this one to focus on evangelism. Well, enough said….
I suspect the “no comments allowed” rule on articles sumitted by guest contributors was negotiated in by Jeremy.
According to Kenney, the blog will showcase articles from “some of the best and brightest in Southern Baptist life.†How realistic is that? I doubt the boys over at SBCOutpost have the time to write articles for this new blog as well as their own.
Memories can be funny things. You remember me saying my blog would focus on evangelism; I remember no such thing. Here’s what I said at the time:
While I will continue to write about convention issues, this name change will serve as a challenge to me to remember this focus, and to occasionally offer thoughts and resources that remind us of the Reason for the Hope that we have.
If anything, what I intended was an occasional focus on apologetics, reminding myself and my readers that it isn’t enough to know what we believe, but that we must be ready to articulate why we believe it, and to do so, as the scripture says, with gentleness and respect.
Hopefully, this will clear up your memory glitch for you…

Wes,
Doggone you guys. I already had this gig going on! There is no way you four dudes match my own gig I had arranged:
-Wade Burleson (Chief Editor, known for consistency)
-Peter Lumpkins (Writer in residence, known for passive aggressive psychobabble)
With that, I am…

I admit my memory isn’t what it used to be, so if you say the focus of your blog isn’t evangelism…so be it!
