This suspension means, without limitation, that Burleson will not be allowed to participate in any meeting or business of the Trustee Board, serve on any trustee committee, or be reimbursed for expenses of travel to any trustee meeting or business. This suspension will be reviewed after the four trustee meetings have occurred. The Executive Committee will make a determination at that time whether the suspension should be lifted. If prior to that time, Burleson makes an apology to the Board for his violations of the Trustee Standards of Conduct and Trustee Responsibilities, commits to working within the structure and policies of the Board, and agrees to refrain from blogging about the IMB, the Executive Committee will consider lifting the above restrictions.

The censure motion stated that Burleson had “repeatedly failed” to abide by provisions in the code of conduct adopted in March 2006 governing trustee service, including requirements that trustees “refrain from public criticism of Board approved actions” and “scrupulously avoid either the fact or the appearance” of having disclosed information or private conversations from trustees meetings.

The Board has crossed the line and this will be more than they can handle at the SBC….

They might want to get their resumes ready.

I am curious, what exactly did Burleson mean when he was quoted by the baptist news “…can not violate my Baptist distintives…” What exactly does he mean?

Dean,

I’ve long ago given up trying to figure out what he means by “Baptist distinctives.” He has written about his church serving communion to people who were sprinkled as infants, and about accepting the baptism by a six-year-old of their friend in the family swimming pool. So frankly, I don’t put much stock in his pronouncements about “Baptist distinctives.”

Freedom on secondary or tertiary issues.

The freedom of principled dissent.

The freedom to publish your own statement of beliefs, as set forth in the BF&M itself.

There are others, but I’m not sure your answer to Dean was anything other than a backhanded slap at Wade. I’d protest that were it you they were slapping at, and I must voice my objection here, too.

Ah, but Bob, do not forget that there are new Baptist distinctives:

**The individual is not smart enough to decide what the Bible teaches for himself, therefore he needs the authority of an ordained, seminary educated *man* to decide for him.

**Your salvation is only real if you were immersed by previously referenced ordained, seminary educated *man*, in a Southern Baptist Church whose pastor has signed the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

**You cannot take communion unless you agree 100% with everything that Nashville/Atlanta/Richmond/Dallas says.

**If you wander from the denominational line in any way, shape, or form, your character will be assasinated in any number of ways, although the favorite is to be called a liberal. But there are many effective ways to pull it off.

**Also, make sure that all proceedings by any denominational agency are kept strictly secret, even though the hundreds of millions of dollars used to run these agencies are given by you and me, the people in the pew. Any information released to the public will be considered rogue unless it comes from the Baptist Press.

THESE are the NEW Baptist distinctives. Get used to it, or you will be NEXT.
